FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: MOUNTIES FALL 4-3 TO KUTZTOWN IN FIELD HOCKEY HOME OPENER

MANSFIELD – Kutztown scored with just over three minutes remaining to pull out a 4-3 victory over Mansfield University in the Mountaineer home and PSAC opener at Spaulding Field Saturday afternoon.

The Mountaineers jumped out to 2-0 lead on unassisted goals by Alissa Gallagher (6:33) and Ryanne Higgins (15:39) before Kutztown got on the board at the 18:09 mark on a goal by Lauren Blain off an assist by Collen Healey. 

In the second half, Kutztown grabbed a 3-2 lead on goals by Laura Belfdatti off a penalty shot and Mandi Turner.

But the Mountaineer came right back to tie the score on a shot by Keely Jarrett with just less than four minutes to play.

However Kutztown would answer back with the winning goal less than a minute later.

Shannon Brimm recorded 19 saves in goal for Mansfield.

Kutztown held a 36-4 advantage in shots on goal and 16-3 margin on corners.

The Mountaineers fall to 0-4 on the season while Kutztown improves to 3-0.

The Mountaineers will travel to Slippery Rock on Wednesday.
