FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: MOUNTIES BEAT C.W. POST IN OVERTIME SHOOTOUT – HOLLY FREDERICKSON’S GOAL IN SHOOTOUT LIFTS MU TO THIRD WIN IN LAST FOUR GAMES

Brookville, NY – Holly Frederickson’s goal gave Mansfield a 3-2 advantage in an overtime shootout to lift the Mountaineers to a 2-1 over C.W. Post in NCAA Division II field hockey Wednesday afternoon at Brookville, NY.

The Mountaineers trailed 1-0 until Alissa Gallagher scored an unassisted goal with 5:48 left in the game to for overtime.

After neither team scored in overtime, the winner was decided on a shootout with each team picking five players to face the goalie.

Mansfield goalie Katie Heil turned back three of the five shots. In the Mountaineers turn Ryanne Higgins scored before MU’s fourth player Marci Fureman tied the shootout at 2-2. Frederickson then drilled a clean shot into the back of the net for the game winner.

Heil had seven saves for Mansfield.

The Mountaineers have now won three of the last four games to improve to 4-9 on the season. C.W. Post falls to 2-9.

Mansfield will host Shippensburg on Saturday.
