FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: MOUNTIES SPLIT AT SHIPPENSBURG – YODER TOSSES COMPLETE GAME FOUR HITTER IN NIGHTCAP

SHIPPENSBURG – Freshman Dan Yoder (Montoursville/Williamsport) threw a complete game four hitter to lead Mansfield University to a 4-1 win at Shippensburg University in the nightcap of a PSAC East doubleheader at Fairchild Field Tuesday afternoon. Mansfield dropped the first game 11-0.

After giving up a solo run in the first inning on just one hit, Yoder would hold Shippensburg scoreless the rest of the day. He struck out four while improving his record to 7-2 on the season.

The Mountaineers scored all the runs they would need in the top of the third inning when Jason Manwaring (Elmira,NY/Horseheads) singled with two outs and moved to second when Brett Brown (Bellefonte/Bellefonte) was hit by a pitch. Both runners moved up on a passed ball and scored on a throwing error by the third baseman.

Mansfield added solo runs in the sixth on an rbi single by Matt Mills and in the seventh when Craig Barkey led off with a double and later scored on a wild pitch.

In the opener, Shippensburg broke open a tight 2-0 game with nine runs in the fifth inning.

Mansfield goes to 19-15 overall and 6-6 in the PSAC. The Mountaineer will host Kutztown in a makeup doubleheader Wednesday afternoon at Shaute Field starting at 1 p.m.
