IMMEDIATE RELEASE: MOUNTIES SWEEP SHIPPENSBURG IN PSAC EAST OPENER
MANSFIELD
– Jeff Papi (Tunkhannock/Tunkhannock) went the distance to win
his fourth game of the season in the opener and Mansfield rallied from a 2-0
deficit in the nightcap to sweep Shippensburg 8-3, 6-3 in the PSAC East opener
for both teams at Shaute Field Thursday afternoon.
Papi
scattered seven hits while striking out four and walking one to improve to 4-2
on the season. Mansfield trailed 3-1 before scoring four runs in the bottom of
the third inning and adding three more in the bottom of the fourth.
Brett
Brown (Bellefonte/Bellefonte) went two for four with an RBI with Travis
Wurster (Montoursville/Mountoursville) going two for three.
In
the nightcap, Dan Yoder (Montoursville/Williamsport) started on
the mound for the Mountaineers before leaving the game after the third inning. Marty
Rakazawski (Wilkes-Barre/Hanover) came in relief scattering six hits
over 3.1 innings to pick up the win. John Cronin (Horseheads,NY/Horseheads)
earned a save coming in with a runner at second and third with one out in the
top of the seventh and got the final two outs.
Brandon
Brokaw (Altoona/Altoona) went three for three for Mansfield with Jason
Manwaring (Elmira,NY/Horseheads), Craig Barkey (New
Eagle/Ringgold) and Travis Wurster with two hits each.
Mansfield
improves to 15-8 overall and 2-0 in the PSAC East while Shippensburg falls to
8-14 and 0-2 in the PSAC East.
Mansfield
will travel to Millersville this Saturday.
