MILLERSVILLE LOSE BOTH GAMES IN LAST AT BAT
MILLERSVILLE Millersville hit a two out, two-run home run
in the bottom of the seventh in the opener and scored a run in extra innings in
the nightcap to sweep Mansfield University 8-7, 3-1 in PSAC East baseball action
Saturday afternoon.
In the opener, the Mountaineers
scored three runs in the top of the third inning on a solo home run by Brett
Brown (Bellefonte/Bellefonte) and two run double by Doug Evans
(Mansfield/Elmira Notre Dame) to take a 3-1 lead.
Mansfield added another run in the fourth on a RBI double by Brandon
Brokaw (Altoona/Altoona) before Millersville rallied for four runs in
the bottom of the fifth to take a 6-4 lead into the top of the seventh.
Jason Fischer (Williamsport/Williamsport)
led off with a double down the left field line. After Doug Evans was hit by a
pitch, D.J. Houshauer (Hamburg/Hamburg) delivered a pinch-hit
single to score one run. The tying run scored on a wild pitch before Josh
Rearick (Elton/Forest Hills) singled in the go ahead run.
Millersville got the first batter in the bottom of the
seventh on base before Mansfields Marty Rakczawski
(Wilkes-Barre/Hanover), who came in relief of starter John Cronin in the
fifth inning, got the next two batters out. But Mitch Schueck hit a two-out home
run to end the game.
Rearick, Fischer, and Brokaw each had two hits with Fischer
belting two doubles.
In the nightcap, Mansfield scored both its runs in the top of
the third on a two run single by Brett Brown. Freshman Matt Allegretto
(Bellefonte/Bellefonte) went the distance for the Mountaineers
scattering six hits and striking out four batters.
Mansfield falls to 15-10 overall and 2-2 in the PSAC East.
Millersville improves to 7-7 and 3-0 in the conference. The Mountaineers
doubleheader scheduled at Lock Haven for Sunday has been postponed.
