FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: MOUNTIE RALLY FALLS SHORT IN 9-8 LOSS TO KUTZTOWN—DROP GAME TWO 8-3  

Mansfield—The Mountaineer baseball team rallied for four runs in the bottom of the seventh inning only to fall short in a 9-8 loss to Kutztown University at Shaute Field Wednesday afternoon. Mansfield dropped game two of the doubleheader 8-3.

Kutztown scored six runs in the top of the first inning with a grand slam coming off the bat of Mark Samsell.

Jason Manwaring (Elmira, NY/Horseheads, NY) hit his fourth homerun to get the Mounties on the board. Marty Rakaczewski (Wilkes-Barre/Hanover) came on in relief of starter John Cronin (Horseheads,NY/Horseheads,NY), allowing three runs and striking out three.

Trailing 9-4 heading into the bottom of the seventh, Mansfield exploded with four runs only to strand the tying run on third base.

D.J. Hoshauer (Hamburg/Hamburg) led the hitting attack going 2-3 with three RBI.

In the nightcap, Mansfield fell to Kutztown 8-3. Kutztown once again jumped out to a 6-0 lead after two innings. Mansfield would cut the lead to 6-3 on a two RBI single by Kasey Keenan (Aliquippa/Hopewell).

Hoshauer led the hitting attack in game two going 2-4.

Mansfield goes to 19-16 overall and 6-8 in the PSAC. The Mountaineer will travel to play a non-league game at Cortland on Friday.
