RELEASE DATE: 3/10/04 FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: MOUNTIES DROP TWO IN FT. MYERS – MILLS AND BAKER HOMER IN OPENER FT. MYERS, FL – The Mansfield University baseball team went in a mini hitting slump in dropping a 6-5 decision to Alderson-Broaddus and a 13-1 setback to the University of Indianapolis at Ft. Myers, FL Wednesday afternoon. In the opener, the Mountaineers trailed 6-1 before exploding for four runs in the bottom of the fourth inning on home runs by Matt Mills and Eric Baker. Mansfield managed to get runners in scoring position in both the sixth and seventh innings with one out, but could not push across the tying run. John Cronin got the start for Mansfield and suffered his first loss of the season in three decisions. He struck out eight and walked just one while allowing seven hits. Travis Wurster (Montoursville/Montoursville) went had two hits in three at-bats for the Mountaineers. In the nightcap, Mansfield managed just four hits while using five different pitchers. Josh Rearick had triple for the Mountaineers. Mansfield fall to 9-5 overall and will play South Dakota in a single game on Thursday.
