FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: MOUNTIES SPLIT WITH EAST STROUDSBURG IN PSAC BASEBALL ACTION SATURAY – BROWN HITS SIXTH HOME RUN OF SEASON  

MANSFIELD – Brett Brown (Bellefonte/Bellefonte) smacked a two run home run and Dan Yoder (Montoursville/Williamsport) picked up his sixth win of the season in relief as Mansfield University edged East Stroudsburg 4-3 in the first game of a PSAC East doubleheader at Shaute Field Saturday afternoon. East Stroudsburg won the nightcap 10-4.  

Trailing 1-0, Mansfield scored three runs in the bottom of the fifth with Jason Manwaring drive in a run with a double and the scoring when Brett Brown crushed a home run over the left field fence.  

East Stroudsburg rallied with two runs in the top of the sixth inning to tie the score at 3-3. With one out in the bottom of the seventh, Jason Manwaring walked and was lifted for pinch runner Brett Shockless (Williamsport/Loyalsock). Shockless took third on a infield single by Brett Brown and scored on a throwing error to win the game.  

Jeff Papi (Tunkhannock/Tunkhannock) started on the mound for the Mountaineers striking out four over the first six innings of the game before being relieved by Dan Yoder. Brown was 2-4 with a home run and two rbi.  

In the nightcap, the Mountaineers managed just six hits while Yoder absorbed the loss after going the first 3.1 innings. Manwaring went 2-4 at the plate.  

Mansfield is now 17-12 overall and 4-4 in the PSAC East. The Mountaineers will host Bloomsburg University in a doubleheader Sunday starting at 1 p.m. at Shaute Field.
