WINNING STREAK ENDS WITH LOSSES TO CENTRAL MISSOURI AND WEST LIBERTY IN FLORIDA
FT. MYERS,
FL – The Mansfield University baseball team saw its four game winning streak
come to a halt in a 19-1 loss to NCAA Division II Champion Central Missouri
State and 1-0 setback to West Liberty State at Ft. Myers, FL on Sunday.
Mansfield
never got untracked in losing
to the defending national champions with
Central Missouri
scoring six runs in the first
inning in cruising to the win. Brett
Shockloss (Williamsport/Loyalsock) drove in the Mountaineers only run
with a single in the fourth inning. Freshman Travis
Lepperd (Duncannon/Susquenita) and Philip
Anderson (Claysville/McGuffey) each had two hits for Mansfield.
In the
nightcap,
West Liberty
scored the games only run by
stealing home in the first inning. The Mountaineers, who held a 7-4 advantage in
hits, almost tied the game in the sixth inning when Brandon Brokaw was thrown
out at the plate on a single by DJ Hoshauer (Hamburg/Hamburg).
Kane Stein (N.
Huntington/Norwin)
scattered just four hits in going the distance for the loss while striking out
three. Josh Rearick (Elton/Forest Hills),
Shockloss and Hoshauer each went 2-3 for
Mansfield.
The
Mountaineers fall to 7-3 on the season. They play South Dakota
State
in a doubleheader on Monday
morning.
