FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: MOUNTIES KEEP PLAYOFF HOPES ALIVE WITH 11-5, 3-2 SWEEP OVER BLOOMSBURG – YODER WINS EIGHTH GAME OF SEASON

  BLOOMSBURG – Dan Yoder (Montoursville/Williamsport) went the distance to pick up his eighth win in the opener with Marty Rakaczewski (Wilkes-Barre/Hanover) and Jeff Papi (Tunkhannock/Tunkhannock) combining for a six-hitter in the nightcap to lead Mansfield University to a 11-6, 3-2 sweep over Bloomsburg University in a PSAC East doubleheader at Danny Litwhiler Field Saturday afternoon.

  Yoder improved his record to 8-2 on the season, scattering eight hits and striking out four.

  Locked in a 1-1 tie, Mansfield exploded for nine runs I the top of the fifth inning on rbi singles by Brett Brown (Bellefonte/Bellefonte), Jason Fischer (Williamsport/Williamsport), and Craig Barkey (New Eagle/Ringgold). Jason Manwaring (Elmira,NY/Horseheads) drove in two runs with a single before Brown doubled in another rbi.

  Mansfield pounded out 12 hits with Barkey going three-for-three with two rbi and Brown, Fischer and Manwaring each collecting two hits.

  In the nightcap, the Mountaineers got two runs in the top of the first on a rbi double by Manwaring and single by DJ Hoshauer (Hamburg/Hamburg). Bloomsburg closed the game to 2-1 with a run in the second before the Mountaineers added an insurance run in the fifth on a single by Hoshauer.

  Rakaczewski started and worked 4.1 innings allowing four hits with a strikeout. Papi came in with runners on first and second with one out in the fifth inning and got a double play to end the threat. He gave up two hits in 2.2 innings with two strikeouts for the save.

  Hoshouser went three-for-four with two rbi while Travis Wurster (Montoursville/Montoursville), and Stu Sumner (New Columbia/Milton) each had two hits.

  Mansfield improves to 21-16 overall and 8-8 in the PSAC East. The Mountaineers will host Millersville on Monday.
