FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: MOUNTIES DROP TWO TO WEST CHESTER – PSAC PLAYOFF HOPES DIM

MANSFIELD – The Mansfield University baseball team could never get untracked in dropping a PSAC East doubleheader 11-5, 6-1 to West Chester Thursday afternoon at Shaute Field.

West Chester jumped on starter Dan Yoder (Montoursville/Williamsport) for six runs in the first inning in the opener and would pound out 16 hits against four Mountaineer pitchers.

Mansfield hit into three double plays to take themselves out of scoring innings while collecting six hits in the game. Brett Brown (Bellefonte/Bellefonte) slammed his eight home run of the season with one on in the seventh, but it was too little to late for a Mountaineer comeback. DJ Hoshauer (Hamburg/Hamburg) had two hits.

In the nightcap, West Chester got to MU starter Matt Allegretto (Bellefonte/Bellefonte) with four runs over the first three innings while limiting Mansfield to eight hits on the game. Jason Manwaring (Elmira,NY/Horseheads) and Hoshauer each doubled for Mansfield.

The losses were a serious blow to the Mountaineers PSAC playoff chances. Mansfield falls to 23-18 overall and 10-10 in the PSAC East with four conference games remaining. Kutztown leads the PSAC East with a 13-5 record with six games remaining with West Chester at 14-6 with four games remaining. In case of a tie, West Chester has the tie-breaker with the Mountaineers.
