FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: Kevin Miller named preseason All-American by Collegiate Baseball Magazine – Chris Zelko listed as Player to Watch and Glenn Jenks as Newcomer to Watch

MANSFIELD – Mansfield University junior outfielder Kevin Miller (Kenvil,NJ/Roxbury) has been selected as one of 11 players  in the NCAA Division II Atlantic Region to be named to Preseason All-American honors by Collegiate Baseball Magazine.

Junior pitcher Chris Zelko (Horseheads,NY/Horseheads) and transfer catcher Glen Jenkins (Glen Bernie,MD/CCBC) have been listed as Players to Watch and Newcomers to Watch in the latest publication of the magazine.

Miller earned both NCAA Division II All-Atlantic Region and All-PSAC East second team honors last year after leading the Mountaineers in batting. Miller also ranked 12th in the PSAC with a .399 batting average. His team-high 75 hits, fourth best in the conference, included seven doubles and six home runs. Hitting from the leadoff spot for much of the season, Miller also drove in 30 runs while scoring 43 times. He stole nine bases in 15 attempts and led the team with a .426 on-base percentage.

Zelko emerged as one of the top pitchers on the staff this past season. The sophomore posted a 6-4 record with a team-best 4.26 ERA. He allowed 62 hits in 57.0 innings worked while striking out 33 batters. Zelko, who also was a Rawlings/ABCA Golden Gove recipient, was charge with just one error on the season.

Jenkins is a transfer from the Community College of Baltimore County where he was named the NJCAA Region XX All-Tournament team. An outstanding defensive player, Jenkins was the National NJCCA Golden Glove Catcher of the Year as well as the NJCAA Division II Northeast District Defensive Player of the Year.

Mansfield opens the 2010 season at Shepherd University on Feb. 27.
