FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: Mansfield Baseball Sweeps Lock Haven
LOCK HAVEN – The Mansfield University Baseball team earned an away sweep of Lock Haven University Tuesday afternoon with scores of 10-7 and 11-4 in the nightcap.
In game one, Mansfield and Lock Haven were tied after one full inning 2-2. It wasn’t until the top of the third inning where Mansfield would take the lead. Dan Chevalier hit a single to score Kevin Miller after Miller hit a double to open up the inning. Dylan Woodworth also singled to drive home Chris Coleman.
Mansfield and Lock Haven both scored three runs in the fourth inning to bring the score to 7-5 Mansfield. In the bottom of the fifth, Lock Haven scored off a walk and a sacrificed flyball to tie the score at seven.
Mansfield reclaimed the lead in the top of the sixth with Coleman getting another two RBI’s off of a single scoring Miller and Matt Hamilton. Chevalier finished the inning and the game with a sacrificed bunt to score Mike Hartz.
In game two Mansfield jumped out to an early lead again with a 5-1 start in the first two innings. Lock Haven fought back in the fifth inning scoring three runs to have a score of 6-4. Though the Mountaineers crushed any hope in the sixth and seventh innings with two runs in the sixth and three in the seventh.
Coleman had a perfect game in game two going 2-2 with four RBI’s making his day a total of 4-5 from the plate with six RBI’s. Miller had two doubles on the day along with two RBI’s. Hamilton had two doubles with six runs scored.
Bernard Johnson got the win in game one throwing three innings allowing one hit and two walks. Zach Ullrich got the win in game two pitching four innings allowing seven hits, four runs and one walk.
The sweep extends Mansfield’s win streak to winning the past nine in a row making their overall record 28-14 with a conference record of 11-9.
The Mounties host Washington Adventist University on Wednesday April 21 at 1 pm.
