Johnson and Kevin Miller named to 1st Team All-PSAC East honors –
Mike Hartz earns 2nd Team recognition
MANSFIELD – Mansfield University
baseball standouts Bernard Johnson (Corning,NY/Corning East) and
Kevin Miller (Kenvil,NJ/Roxbury) were selected to 1st
Team All-PSAC East honors while teammate Mike Hartz (Dauphin/Central
Dauphin) earned 2nd Team recognition in voting conducted
among the conference head coaches and released today.
A
senior, Johnson was the only first team selection at relief
pitcher. In 17 appearances during the season, all of them in relief, Johnson
posted a 6-3 record with a 3.16 ERA and four saves. He led the team in
appearances, wins, saves and ERA while finishing second in strikeouts with 27 in
31.1 innings worked.
Miller,
a second team All-PSAC East selection last season, earned a 1st Team
selection this year after batting .364 on the season. The junior outfielder
started 47 games for the Mountaineers with his 60 hits including 14 doubles, a
triple and three home runs. He also batted in 27 runs while stealing a team-high
17 bases.
A
junior, Hartz was the only player on the team to start all 50
games this season where the third baseman batted .326 with 19 doubles, a triple,
and home run. In addition, Hartz had a team-best 51 RBI’s on the season and made
numerous spectacular plays at third base.
