FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: Mansfield’s Chris Zelko named PSAC East Pitcher of the Week

MANSFIELD – Mansfield University’s Chris Zelko (Horseheads,NY/Horseheads) has been named the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) East Division Pitcher of the Week for his outstanding performance during the week ending 4/05/09.

Zelko appeared in one game, a 6-3 win over Bloomsburg, and was almost unhittable retiring the first nine batters he faced.  Zelko, who allowed just one hit over six innings worked, did not give up a hit until Kevin Ward’s two-run home run in the sixth inning. Zelko struck out three in improving to 3-3 on the season.

Zelko has appeared in eight games this season including five starts. He has pitched a team-high 40.2 innings allowing 33 hits while striking out 25 batters and walking just 10. Zelko tops the MU starters with a 2.88 earned run average.

Mansfield has won its last four games to improve to 14-22 on the season. The Mountaineers are scheduled to host Lake Erie College on Tuesday afternoon starting at 1 p.m. at Shaute Field.
