One Box Score MANSFIELD – The Mansfield University baseball team continued its recent doldrums dropping a PSAC East doubleheader to West Chester 3-1, 12-5 Saturday afternoon at Joe Shaute Field. In the opener, Mansfield starter Chris Zelko gave up two runs in the first including home run by Blair Dameron. A solo home run in the second by Bob Stumpo gave West Chester(22-8, 11-1) a 3-0 lead before Chris Miller hit a solo home run in the bottom of the inning to close the score to 3-1. It would be the only hit of the game for the Mountaineers off David Slusser who improved to 4-1 on the season. Zelko pitched well for the Mountaineers after the first two innings scattering seven hits and striking out four while allowing no walks. In the nightcap, West Chester scored three runs in the first inning and four more in the third to put the game out of reach. Chris Miller led the offense going 2-2 with two RBI and Brian Danner was 2-3. Mansfield falls to 10-22 overall and 0-8 in the PSAC East. The Mountaineers travel to Lake Erie College of Tuesday before hosting Bloomsburg in a PSAC doubleheader on Friday.
