MANSFIELD – Chris Coleman drilled a two-run home run and Eric Rosenberger picked up his fifth win of the season to lead Mansfield to a 8-3 win over Shippensburg in a PSAC East doubleheader at Shaute Field Monday afternoon.

Shippensburg won the nightcap 6-2.

In the opener, Mansfield scored in every inning starting with a sac fly from Cody Stinger in the bottom of the first and added three more in the second with two runs scoring on Coleman’s fourth home run of the season.

Shippensburg scored twice in the top of the fourth on a single by Kevin Scholly and Sean Killian’s double to cut the lead to 4-2.

But Mansfield came right back with a run in the bottom of the inning on a RBI single by Matt Young and added runs in the fifth and sixth.

Rosenberger posted another strong outing for the Mountaineers scattering eight hits and striking out four over 6 2/3 innings to pick up his fifth win in seven decisions. Tyler Noel stuck out the only batter he faced to end the game.

Drew Bair went 2-2 with an RBI and Nate Grove was 2-3 to lead the Mountaineer offense. Mike Hartz went 2-4 with a double and RBI.

In the nightcap, Shippensburg jumped on Mansfield starter Joe Will with a run in the first and two more runs in the second and third innings.

Mansfield got on the scoreboard with a run in the fourth and added another run in the seventh but couldn’t pull any closer. Stinger went 2-2 with an RBI with Nate Grove also going 2-2.

The split actually helped the Mountaineers quest for a PSAC playoff berth. Mansfield has eight conference games remaining with four each against Millersville (7-9 PSAC East) and East Stroudsburg (8-12 PSAC East). The Mountaineers trail both teams for the fourth final playoff spot. Millersville has four games against Mansfield and four games against second-place Kutztown remaining while East Stroudsburg has just four games with Mansfield to complete the conference schedule.

Mansfield will host Millersville in a doubleheader Friday afternoon starting at 1 p.m. at Shaute Field.
