FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: Zelko fires three-hit shutout as Mounties split doubleheader in Florida

FT. PIERCE, FL – Chris Zelko threw a three-hit shutout to lead Mansfield to a 4-0 shutout over Northwood (MI) in the first game of a doubleheader at Ft. Pierce Sunday.

Northwood won the nightcap 6-5.

Zelko was stellar in posting is first collegiate shutout striking out four and walking just one batter over the seven innings. He allowed just one extra-base hit and allowed no runner past second base.

Mansfield scored the only run it would need in the bottom on the second on an RBI by Kevin Miller and added three more in the fourth including one on an RBI double by Tony Battisti.

Northwood scored three runs in the first inning of the nightcap but Mansfield rallied to tie the score at 5-5 on a two run single by Cody Stinger in the top of the fifth.

Mansfield committed six errors in the game including two in the bottom of the seventh to allow the winning run.

Stinger went 2-4 with two RBI’s and Nate Grove was 2-4 with a triple and RBI to lead Mansfield.

Mansfield is now 3-7 on the season and plays Chestnut Hill in a doubleheader on Monday.
