FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: Mansfield’s Yeakel named PSAC East Player of the Week
MANSFIELD – Mansfield University senior standout Abe Yeakel (Kutztown/Kutztown) has been named the Pennsylvania State Athletic conference (PSAC) East Division Player of the Week for his outstanding performance during the week ending 4/20/08.
It marks the second time this season Yeakel has earned the conference’s top weekly honor.
Yeakel provided an offensive explosion as he went 14-for-28 in eight games this week. He posted a 1.071 slugging percentage, blasting five homeruns and a double. The Mountaineer senior accumulated a .576 on-base percentage, as he had four walks to go with his 14 hits. Yeakel also added two stolen bases on as many attempts. His defense was a solid as his bat. The Mansfield first baseman was perfect as he handled all 67 putout opportunities. The highlight of Yeakel's week came against Millersville, where the senior belted four homeruns, including three in the game two of the doubleheader.
For the season, Yeakel is the leading hitter in the PSAC with a .467 batting average. His conference best 79 hits including 12 doubles and he ranks second in the PSAC with 10 home runs.
Yeakel is also second in the conference in RBI (55) as wells as runs scored (51) and on-base percentage. He also ranks third in slugging % (.716).
Mansfield is currently 29-18 overall and 8-8 in the PSAC East.
