RELEASE DATE: 4/19/08 FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: Yeakel hits four home runs as Mansfield splits with Millersville in PSAC East doubleheader
Game One Box Score MANSFIELD – Abe Yeakel hit four home runs on the day and Mansfield and Millersville combined for 45 runs and 70 hits in splitting a PSAC East doubleheader at Joe Shaute Field Saturday afternoon. Mansfield held on to win the opener 13-12 and Millersville scored four times in the top of the eighth to pull out a 17-13 win in the nightcap. With the split, Millersville takes sole possession of second place in the PSAC East with a 10-6 record while Mansfield falls into a tie for third with Kutztown with an 8-8 conference mark. In the opener, the two teams combined for seven home runs including one each by Mansfield’s Abe Yeakel, Nate Grove, Drew Bair and Tony Battisti. With the scored tied at 6-6, Mansfield scored seven times in the bottom of the sixth inning including back-to-back home runs by Grove and Drew Bair. But as was the tone of the day, Millersville came right back to score six runs in the top of the seventh and had two runners on before Mansfield got the final out. Yeakel went 3-for-4 with a home run and two RBI while Ryan Giblin, Grove, and Battisti each had two hits. Trevor Tellip picked up his fifth win in six decisions this season in relief of starter Eric Rosenberger. Enrique Arroyo hit a grand slam home run in the sixth for Millersville. In the nightcap, the two teams pounded away on each other with a combined 39 hits as the lead battled back and forth the entire game. Mansfield trailed 12-7 before scoring four runs in the bottom of the sixth, two coming of Yeakel’s second home run of the game, to pull to 12-11. Millersville added another run in the top of the seventh to extend the lead to 12-10 before Yeakel put the game into extra-innings with his third home run of the game, this one a two-out, two-strike home run over the right field fence. But Millersville scored four times in the top of the eighth to pull out the win. Yeakel went 3-for-4 with three home runs and six RBI while Giblin was 3-for-5 with a home runs, double and four RBI. Nate Grove also added three hits including a double and home run and drove in two runs. Mansfield will host Columbia Union on Sunday. GAME ONE Millersville 100
