Release Date: 4/12/08 For Immediate Release- Giblin’s RBI Single in 12th gives Mansfield Split against West Chester Mansfield- Ryan Giblin hit a RBI single down the right field line in the bottom of the 12th to score Drew Bair to give the Mountaineers the 6-5 win over West Chester in the second game of their PSAC East doubleheader. The Mountaineers took the first lead of the game in the bottom of the second when Chris Miller homered to right field. West Chester tied the score in the third when Nick Spisak reached on a hit by pitch and scored on an error by the third baseman. The Golden Rams took the lead in the sixth when Blair Dameron drove in Nick Spisak with a single for the 2-1 lead. Mansfield retook the lead in the bottom of the inning when Chris Coleman led off with a double down the right field line. Nate Grove singled with a RBI single to center field to score pinch-runner Jared Johnson and tie the game. Bair bunted pinch-runner Ryan Riley to second and Bair reached first on an error by the pitcher. Matt Young followed with an RBI single to left field to give Mansfield a 3-2 lead. Bob Stumpo led off the top of the seventh for West Chester with a home run to right field to tie the game and send it to extra innings. In the top of the eighth, Kyle Bechter hit a 2 RBI single to give West Chester a 5-3 lead. Bair led off the eight for Mansfield with a walk and Tony Battisti followed with a home run to straight away center field to tie the game at five. That’s how the score remained until Giblin’s walk-off single. Trevor Tellip earned the win in relief for Mansfield going 4 2/3 innings allowing just two hits an no runs. Giblin was had three hits including his game-winning RBI while Nate Grove was 3-3 with an RBI. Nick Spisak had four hits for West Chester. In Game one West Chester scored first picking up two runs in the first inning, however, Mansfield fought back with a run of their own when Abe Yeakel drove in Matt Young with an RBI groundout. Mansfield took the lead in the second when Miller led off with a double and moved to third on a single by Coleman. Bair laid down a bunt to score Miller from third and advanced Coleman to second. Battisti single into center field to score Coleman and give Mansfield a 3-2 lead. The Mountaineers increased their lead in the third when Yeakel hit a two-run homer to right center. West Chester wouldn’t stay down as they scored 2 runs in the fourth and put up six runs in the fifth inning on their way to a 13-6 win. David Slusser picked up the win for West Chester while Eric Carmichael earned the save. Stumpo had three hits for West Chester while Spisak, Dameron, Bechter, Kevin McGrath and Drew Pare had two hits apiece. Giblin had three hits for Mansfield, including his second home run of the season. Mansfield travels to Columbia Union on Tuesday to play a non-league doubleheader.
