For Immediate Release: Battisti, Giblin power Mansfield to sweep over Bloomsburg

Mansfield- Tony Battisti hit a bases-loaded single past the third baseman to give Mansfield the 5-4 win in game one and Ryan Giblin went 3-3 in game two to lead the Mountaineers to 10-8 win and complete the sweep over Bloomsburg in a PSAC East doubleheader at Shaute Field.

Mansfield scored first in game two went Giblin drove a two run homer to left center field with a man aboard for the early 2-0 lead.  Bloomsburg tied it in the third but Mansfield quickly answered with four runs in the bottom half of the inning.

Battisti reached when he got hit by a pitch and scored on Abe Yeakel's 12 home run of the season.  Giblin followed with a single down the left field line.  He then stole second and advanced to third on a throwing error by the catcher and scored on an RBI single by Justin Garcia.  Garcia scored when he stole second and advanced on a throwing error by the catcher and an error by the center fielder when the ball went under his glove.

Bloomsburg cut the lead to 6-4 when the scored a run each in the fourth and fifth innings. 

The Mountaineers answered right back with four more runs in the fifth.  Chris Miller drove in Giblin with an RBI double to right center.  Garcia was next and reached when he was hit by a pitch and Grove followed with a towering shot over the scoreboard in left center field to give Mansfield a 10-4 lead.

Bloomsburg got four runs in the top of the sixth to make it 10-8 but Tyler Noel came on in the seventh to retire Bloomsburg as he picked up his second save of the season.

Giblin had four hits on the day and scored three runs while driving in three while Yeakel had two hits in the second game and Grove had three RBIs in game two.

Eric Rosenberger picked up the win in the second game going 5 2/3 innings giving up 10 hits and six earned runs. 

In the opener, Battisti – who entered the game in the sixth inning replacing starter Justin Baer, drilled a shot past the third base with one out and the bases loaded to drive in the winning run.

Mansfield trailed 3-1 going into the bottom of the fifth inning before senior Yeakel tied the score with a two-run home run over the center field fence.

Bloomsburg retook the lead in the top of the seventh on a RBI single by Matt Allen and Mansfield was down to its final out of the game when Giblin singled to drive in Matt Young with the tying run.

Irv Sleighter went all eight innings to improve to 6-2 on the season. He scattered nine hits and struck out two.  Grove went 2-for-4 from the plate.

The Mountaineers conclude the regular season with a doubleheader at Bloomsburg tomorrow starting at 1 p.m.

With the two wins the Mountaineers move to 31-18 overall on the season and 10-8 in the PSAC East.
