Release Date: 4/20/08 For Immediate Release: Mansfield sweeps Columbia Union behind solid efforts from Joe Will and Chris Zelko Mansfield- Joe Will and Chris Zelko picked up their first wins of the season to sweep Columbia Union 7-3 and 17-1 Sunday afternoon at Shaute Field in a non-conference doubleheader. Columbia Union took the lead first in game one scoring two runs in the second inning. Mansfield answered in the bottom half of the inning when Drew Bair drove in Justin Garcia with an RBI single down the right field line. The Mountaineers took control with three runs in the third inning and one in the fourth. Ryan Giblin drove in Abe Yeakel with a double and Chris Miller drove in Giblin and Matt Young with a single down the right field line. Yeakel homered in the fourth to stretch the Mountaineer lead to 5-2. Columbia Union got a run in the fifth but Mansfield countered with two runs in the bottom half of the inning. Zelko went 6 2/3 for his first win of the season and Trevor Tellip came on in the seventh with the bases-loaded to get the final out of the game for his third save of the season. Bair and Miller had three hits apiece for the Mountaineers while Yeakel hit his fifth home run in two days. Jason Torgerson had two hits for the Pioneers. In game two, Mansfield jumped on the Pioneers for nine runs in the first four innings before putting up eight runs in the bottom of the fifth. Justin Baer had two hits for the Mountaineers as Yeakel, Giblin, Miller, Bair and Ryan Riley had two hits apiece. Will was the beneficiary of the run support, even though it was not needed. Will gave up just four hits allowing one run while striking out four. Mansfield improves to 29-18 on the season and hosts Bloomsburg on Friday April, 25 in the final home game of the season at 1 p.m.
