MANSFIELD – Dave Meldrum hit a walk-off homerun in the bottom of the seventh inning in game one to seal a 4-3 victory over Millersville at Shaute Field on Tuesday afternoon. The Mountaineers fell 5-0 in the second game after Marauder pitcher Brett Rhoads threw a no hitter for the complete game win.

Things were close throughout the first game with Mansfield taking a one run lead early and Millersville taking over the lead after a three run fourth inning.

The Mountaineers responded with two runs in the bottom of the fourth to tie that game at 3-3.

With two strikes on him in the bottom of the seventh inning, Dave Meldrum tagged a line drive deep over the right field fence for his fourth homerun of the season and the walk-off win.

Freshman Eric Rosenberger was impressive on the mound going the distance to earn the win allowing eight hits and no earned runs on 83 pitches.

At the plate, Meldrum continued to lead the Mountaineers going 2-for-4 with a homerun while Nate Grove went 2-for-3 with two doubles and a RBI. Chris Miller recorded the other Mountie RBI of the game.

Andrew Clemens went the distance and earned the loss for Millersville.

Game two was a different story for the Mountaineers.

Freshman Shane Ryan started the game on the mound and struggled through one complete inning allowing five earned runs on four hits. Ryan was relieved in the second inning by Tyler Noel who pitched through the fifth inning allowing no runs and just three hits. Zach Ullrich threw the sixth and seventh innings allowing no runs on just one hit.

The Mountaineers stumbled at the plate in the second game facing Brett Rhoads of Millersville who entered the game with a 9.90 ERA and an 0-5 record.

Rhoads went the distance shutting the Mountaineers out and completing a no hitter while throwing 93 pitches with four strikeouts and two walks

This contest marked the first known time that Mansfield has been no-hit at Shaute Field.
