RELEASE DATE: 3/19/06 FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: Mounties Rally For Seven Runs in Final Two At-Bats to Beat St. Anselm 10-5 – Wyland Picks Up Win in Relief MANSFIELD – On a Sunday afternoon better suited for ice hockey than baseball, Mansfield rallied for seven runs in the last two at-bats to beat St. Anselm 10-5 at Joe Shaute Field. The Mountaineers took an early lead scoring twice in the bottom of the first on a two-run double by David Meldrum. St. Anselm would answer with five runs in the top of the fourth on a two-run single by Ryan Call and RBI double by Tim Keefe. The final two runs of the inning came in on Mansfield errors. Mansfield got one run back in the bottom of fourth on a sac fly by Kevin Rollins. Ryan Wyland replaced Mountaineer starter Matt Allegretto on the mound in the fifth and held St. Anselm scoreless for four innings scattering four hits and striking out one to pick up his first win of the season. He was relieved in the ninth by Colby Rickabaugh who gave up no hits and struck out one. Wyland also opened the bottom of the seventh with a double and advanced to third on a single by Rickabaugh. Wyland scored one out later on a double by Travis Lepperd and Mansfield took when Rickabaugh and Lepperd scored on a two out error. The Mountaineers put the game out of reach in the bottom of the eighth with four runs including RBI singles by Ryan Giblin, Lepperd, J.D. Farina and a sac fly by Wyland. Meldrum went 2-3 with two RBI’s for the Mountaineers’ with Lepperd 2-5 and two RBI’s. Rickabaugh and Scott Erickson also had two hits apiece. Shane Masotta was 2-3 with a double for St. Anselm (6-9) while Tony Modoono was 2-5 with a double. Mansfield improves to 13-9 overall. After playing 16 games over the last 10 days, the Mountaineers will be off until they travel to California (PA) Saturday.
