RELEASE DATE: 4/9/06 FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: Ryan Giblin’s Suicide Squeeze in Bottom of Seventh Give Mounties Split With Bloomsburg MANSFIELD – Ryan Giblin’s suicide squeeze with one out and bases loaded in the seventh inning capped a four-run rally and lifted Mansfield to a 5-4 win over Bloomsburg in the second game of a PSAC East doubleheader at Joe Shaute Field Sunday afternoon. Bloomsburg scored two runs with two-outs in the top of the seventh to win the opener 3-2. It was a marked difference from the doubleheader the same two teams played at Bloomsburg Danny Litwhiler Field Saturday when both teams combined for 44 runs. In the nightcap, things looked break for the Mountaineers as they trailed 4-1 entering their last at-bat. Travis Lepperd led off the inning with a pinch-hit single off Bloomsburg starter Matt Robinson. Ryan Wyland followed with a single up the middle before Brett Shockloss singled in a run to cut the lead to 4-2 while both runner moved up on an error. Colby Rickabaugh then singled in two runs to tie the score. Rickabaugh moved to second on a sac bunt by Matt Young and Dave Meldrum hit a shot off the pitcher to single. J.D. Farina walked to load the bases and Bloomsburg brought in Jeff Withelder to pitch and moved an outfielder to the infield to set up a force at the plate. Giblin then laid a perfect bunt down the first base line with Rickabaugh braking from third on the pitch to score the winning run. Wyland, who came in the fifth inning to relieve starter Nick Grove got the win scattering two hits over the last 2.1 innings. Rickabaugh went 3-4 from the plate with two RBI’s while Meldrum and Giblin added two hits apiece. The opener was almost as wild as the nightcap with Bloomsburg rallying for two-runs with two-out in the top of the seventh when the Mountaineers J.D. Farina diving catch came up just short on a triple by Bloomsburg’s Andy Bucher. Mansfield had taken a 2-1 lead an inning earlier on Ryan Wyland’s solo home run. Dave Rute out dueled Dan Yoder for the win allowing just four hits. Yoder was almost as impressive scattering five hits and striking out three in six innings. Mansfield goes to 23-13 overall and 5-3 in PSAC East play.
