RELEASE DATE: 3/11/05 FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: MOUNTIES SWEEP FINDLAY IN FT. MYERS TO IMPROVE TO 8-3 – EXTEND WINNING STREAK TO SIX GAMES FT. MYERS, FL – Eric Baker went 3-3 with four RBI’s in the opener and Nate Jones picked up the win in relief in the nightcap to lead Mansfield to a 12-1, 7-4 sweep over Findlay University Friday afternoon at Ft. Myers, FL. Mansfield pounded out 15 hits in the opener with Baker and D.J. Hoshauer each collecting three hits. Colby Rickabaugh had two hits, including a double, and two RBI’s. Stu Sumner had two hits. Kane Stein scattered four hits over the first four innings to improve to 3-0 on the year. Matt Allegretto allowed just one hit in three innings of relief. In the nightcap, Mansfield rallied with six runs in the bottom of the sixth inning, three coming on a single by Colby Rickabaugh, to pull out the win. Baker, Hoshauer and Brett Shockloss each had two hits. Nate Jones came in relief of starter Justin Ferguson with the bases loaded in the fourth inning and retired the side without giving up a run. He picked up the win allowing no hits in 2.1 innings of work while striking out three. Rickabaugh pitched a perfect seventh inning to record a save.
The Mountaineers extended their winning streak to six straight games and will play UMass-Lowell tomorrow morning before flying home.
