RELEASE DATE: 3/22/05 FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: MANSFIELD UNIVERSITY BASEBALL DROPS TWO TO SHEPHERD UNIVERSITY – HOSHAUER HITS SEVENTH HOMERUN OF THE SEASON SHEPHERDSTOWN, WV- D.J. Hoshauer hit his 7th homerun of the season, but it would not be enough as Mansfield University lost 8-7 in eight innings and 11-2 in the nightcap to Shepherd University at Fairfax Field Tuesday afternoon. In game one, the Mountaineers trailed 3-2in the third inning and rallied for four runs to take the lead in the top of the fifth inning. Shepherd would answer with three runs in the bottom of the fifth. Mansfield scored one run in the top of the seventh to send the game into extra innings. Shepherd would score their winning run with two outs in the bottom of the eighth to earn the victory. Hoshauer went 2-3 with two RBI’s and a double to lead Mansfield in game one. J.D. Druckenmiller went 2-4 with two RBI’s, one run and a double. Eric Baker went 1-3 with one RBI, two runs and two stolen bases. Nate Jones took the loss for Mansfield and is now 2-2 on the season. In the nightcap, Hoshauer hit his seventh homerun of the season, but it was not enough as the Mountaineers lost 11-2. Mansfield was allowed just two hits in the game. Kevin Rollins was 1-2 with a double and an RBI and Hoshauer was 1-2 with one RBI and one run. Mansfield will host Slippery Rock University of Pennsylvania Thursday March 24th at noon at Shaute Field.
