FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: Mansfield Opens 2005 Season with a 2-1 Start -- Senior Captain D.J. Hoshauer Hits two-run Homerun and records Five RBI’s in Season Opener

Ft. Myers Florida-  The Mansfield University Baseball team kicked off their 2005 campaign with a win over Gannon University late Thursday night.  The Mountaineers would drop their next game Friday morning to Concordia St. Paul, but they bounced back to defeat Charleston for a split on the day.

In the season opener against Gannon University Mansfield pounded out 15 hits, which led them to a 14-5 victory.

Mansfield was led by D.J. Hoshauer (Hamburg/Hamburg) who was 2-4 which included a rare two run inside-the-park homerun, a double, and five RBI’s on the day.  Brett Shockloss (Williamsport/Loyalsock) also started off the season with a hot bat going 4-5 with 1 RBI on the day.

Senior Kane Stein (N. Huntington/Norwin) went seven strong innings scattering five hits, striking out two, while allowing one earned run.

Just 13 hours after pounding out 15 hits against Gannon, Mansfield would see their bats go cold as they managed to only record two hits in a 3-0 loss to Concordia St. Paul.

Nick Grove (Williamsport/Williamsport) had a strong first outing for the Mountaineers throwing five innings scattering four hits while striking out two.

The Mountaineers would rebound in their second game of the day Friday behind a strong outing by Adam Lorson (Montoursville/Montoursville) who helped the Mounties to a 6-4 win over Charleston.  Lorson went six strong innings scattering five hits and only allowing two earned runs.

Mansfield would increase it’s 2-1 advantage over Charleston with the help of a huge four run fourth inning keyed by three consecutive two out doubles.  After a Brett Shockloss walk, J.D. Druckenmiller (Lewistown/Indian Valley) would find a gap for a RBI double plating Shockloss.  Dan Philips (Rochester/Churchville Chile) and Eric Baker (Owego/Owego )would follow with RBI doubles of their own.  David Meldrum (Pittsburgh/Peters Township) would end the scoring with a two out single scoring Baker.

Druckenmiller was 3-5 with a RBI in the game, while Meldrum went 2-3 with two RBI
