FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: MOUNTIES FALL INTO THREE WAY TIE FOR FIRST IN PSAC EAST IN SPLIT WITH MILLERSVILLE

MANSFIELD – Jeff Papi (Tunkhannock/Tunkhannock) a complete game five-hitter and Matt Mills (Clifton,VA/Centerville) went 3-3 with a home run to lead Mansfield University to a 11-1 win over Millersville in the opening game of a PSAC East doubleheader at Shaute Field Friday afternoon. Millersville won the nightcap, 6-2.

In the opener, Papi was dominating scattering five hits while striking out nine and walking one to earn his sixth win of the season. The Mountaineers pounded out 13 hits off four Millersville pitchers Eric Baker (Apalachin,NY/Owego), Josh Rearick (Elton/Forest Hills) and Travis Wurster (Montoursville/Montoursville) each collecting two hits each. DJ Hoshauer (Hamburg/Hamburg) went 2-4 with four RBI.

Mansfield scored in every inning including three in the second with the score tied at 1-1.  Mills led off the inning with his fourth home run of the year. Brett Shockloss (Williamsport/Loyalsock) then doubled and was driven in on a single by Wurster. Wurster later scored on a bases loaded walk to Eric Baker.

In the nightcap, Millersville scored one run in the first inning and held on to that lead until the Mountaineers tied the game in the bottom of the fourth. Brandon Brokaw (Altoona/Altoona) singled with one out and moved to second on fly ball before scoring on a single by Dan Kochenderfer (Lewistown/Lewistown).

Millersville scored a solo run in the top of the fifth before scoring four runs on two home runs with two out in the sixth.

The split kept the Mountaineers in first place in the PSAC East with Kutztown, which swept East Stroudsburg, and West Chester which swept Bloomsburg. Both teams have a 10-4 conference marks.

Mansfield will travel to Millersville on Saturday for a doubleheader.
