MOUNTIES PLACE SEVEN ON ALL-PSAC EAST BASEBALL TEAM – BAKER, MILLS, PAPI,
RAKCZEWSKI AND REARICK EARN 1ST TEAM HONORS
MANSFIELD – Eric
Baker (Apalachin, N.Y./Owego), Matt Mills (Clifton,VA./Centreville), Jeff
Papi(Tunkhannock/Tunkhannock), Marty Rakaczewski(Wilkes-Barre/Hanover Area) and
Josh Rearick(Elton/Forest Hills) each earned First Team honors while
DJ Hoshauer (Hamburg/Hamburg Area) and Brandon Brokaw(Altoona/Altoona)
were named to Second Team honors on the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC)
Eastern Division team released today by the conference office.
The Mountaineers, who won
the PSAC East Championship, had seven players named to the All-PSAC team, which
is the most out of any Eastern Division team just ahead of Kutztown who placed
six players on the team.

A junior, Baker was
selected to the first team at second base. This season Baker hit .418 which was
fifth best in the PSAC. He also had 74 hits which included 14 doubles, two
triples and nine homeruns while driving in 55 runners. Baker finished 2nd
in the conference in slugging percentage (.672), 4th in hits (74),2nd
in RBI’s (55), tied for 2nd in homeruns (9), and third in assists
(123). |

Brokaw, a senior
outfielder made second team honors. This season he batted .296 which included
11 doubles, one triple and four homeruns while driving in 28 runners. Brokaw
finished with a career .276 batting average and 54 RBI’s in 133 career games. |

A junior catcher, Hoshauer
was named to the second team. He batted .349 and had 61 hits which included
nine doubles and 12 homeruns to lead the PSAC. Hoshauer also had 45 RBI’s on
the season. For his career, he is now up to 14 homeruns and 73 RBI’s while
hitting .373. |

Mills, a senior third
baseman was selected to the first team. Mills batted .401 for the Mountaineers
this season which included eight doubles, one triple and six homeruns while
driving in 47 runners. Mills ranked 7th overall in the PSAC in
batting average (.401). With a .363 career batting average which included 12
doubles and six homeruns. |

Finishing
his senior season with an 8-3 record, Papi was the workhorse of the Mountaineer
pitching staff pitching in a team high 67 1/3 innings while striking out 65
batters. He finished 14th overall in the conference in earned run
average, 5th in innings pitched (67 1/3), 5th in
strikeouts (65) and 4th in wins (eight). For his career Papi is
16-11 in 32 games started and 42 appearances in which he appeared in 195 1/3
innings. |

The closer of the
Mountaineer pitching staff, Rakaczewski broke the school record in appearances
with 31 as well as breaking the school record for saves with 12. He finished 11th
in the PSAC in earned run average (2.48), 1st in appearances (31) and
1st in games relieved. |

A senior member of the
Mountaineers, Rearick was named to the first team honors. This season he batted
.354 with 64 hits while driving in 22 runners. Rearick finished 26th
overall in the PSAC, as well as finishing 4th in plate appearances
and 5th in at bats (181). Rearick finished with a career batting
average of .331 in 158 games played. |
