FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:  MANSFIELD COMPLETES SWEEP OVER EAST STROUDSBURG ON A DAN KOCHENDERFER GAME WINNING SINGLE IN 8^th INNING IN GAME TWO

EAST STROUDSBURG- Mansfield University completed the doubleheader sweep over East Stroudsburg University when Dan Kochenderfer (Lewistown/Lewistown) singled in the game winning run in the 8^th inning of game two for a 2-1 victory Sunday afternoon at East Stroudsburg.

With the game tied at 1-1 entering the top half of the eighth inning Josh Rearick (Elton Forest Hills) led the inning off with a single.  After a Brandon Brokaw (Altoona/Altoona) pop-out, Eric Baker (Apalachin N.Y./Owego) was hit by a pitch.  Then DJ Hoshauer (Hamburg/Hamburg Area) hit pop-up that dropped forcing Rearick out at third base.

With runners at first and second with two outs, Kochenderfer singled in Baker to take a 2-1 lead going into the bottom half of the eighth inning.

Marty Rakaczewski (Wilkes-Barre/Hanover Area) who came into relieve starter Kane Stein (N. Huntington/Norwin) in the sixth inning shut down the Warriors in the eighth inning striking out six batters in three innings of relief.

Stein pitched five strong innings for the Mountaineers scattering just three hits and giving up one run.

In the opening game the Mountaineers offence led the way as well as a strong performance on the mound by John Cronin (Horseheads,N.Y./Horseheads) who pitched seven innings while striking out six batters.

The game was scoreless until the top half of the fourth inning when Mansfield scored four runs capped off by a two-run single by Stu Sumner (New Columbia/Milton).

The Mountaineers added two more runs in the following inning when Hoshauer cranked a two-run homerun to give Mansfield a 6-0 lead.

Mansfield would hold on to win game one 9-2 scoring three more runs in the final two innings.

With the win the Mountaineers are now 16-8 overall and 4-0 in the PSAC East.  Mansfield will play host to Ithaca College 3:30 p.m. Wednesday at Shaute Field for a single game.
