RELEASE DATE: 3/13/04 FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: REARICK’S TWO-RUN SINGLE IN BOTTOM OF SEVENTH LIFTS MANSFIELD TO 3-2 OVER IUP IN FLORIDA FT. MYERS, FL – Senior Josh Rearick (Elton/Forest Hills) drilled a two-out single in the bottom of the seventh inning to lift Mansfield to a 3-2 win over IUP at Ft. Myers, FL Saturday morning. Trailing 2-1 entering the bottom of the seventh, Brandon Brokaw (Altoona/Altoona) led off and reached on an error. Stuart Sumner (New Columbia/Milton) drew a walk before the next two batters recorded outs and Rearick stepped to the plate. A passed ball moved the runners up and, with a 3-2 count, Rearick lined a shot into center to plate the winning runs. John Cronin (Horseheads,NY/Horseheads) got the start and went 4 1/3 innings before giving way to Marty Rakaczewski (Wilkes-Barre/Hanover). Rakaczewski allowed one hit and no runs while striking out one over 2 2/3 innings to pick up his first win of the season. Rearick had two of Mansfield’s four hits while Eric Baker (Apalachin, NY/Owego) drove in the other run on a single in the third inning. Mansfield finishes it’s Florida trip with a 11-7 overall record and are scheduled to play their home opener on Wednesday, March 17 when they host Cortland State.
