FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: Josh Palmer Pigskin Classic Event Set for Bernie Murray’s Tuesday Evening – 6TH Annual Palmer Pigskin Classic to Feature Mansfield – Shippensburg on Sept. 9 – Event Free and Opened to the Public

MANSFIELD – The annual Josh Palmer Pigskin Classic media day and open house will take place at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 22 at Bernie Murray’s in Elmira.

The event is free and open to the public.

Mansfield University head football coach Jim Shiffer will attend to preview the Palmer Pigskin Classic and the Mountaineers 2006 season. Josh Palmer himself will also be in attendance to discuss the success of Josh Palmer Fund.

Palmer Pigskin Classic shirts and raffle tickets will be available at Wednesday’s event.

Now in its sixth season, the Palmer Pigskin Classic has raised more than $24,000 for the Josh Palmer Fund, started by former Southside High and Mansfield University football player Josh Palmer. Palmer overcame cancer to return to the football field and started the fund to help area youths afflicted by cancer.

Money is raised by selling Palmer Pigskin Classic shirts – which include free admission to the game – and through a raffle of sports memorabilia, game tickets and other items.

This year’s raffle already includes more than 30 items, including a trip to Phoenix for an Arizona Cardinals football game, tickets to Buffalo Bills and Jacksonville Jaguars games, a special ticket package to Army’s Homecoming contest with Rice including parking and a pass to the cadet parade, along with tickets to games at Penn State, Syracuse and Temple among others.

Also included in the raffle are autographed items including footballs from many NFL teams along with other autographed items and clothing.

Winning ticket holder need not attend the Sept. 9 game and drawing to win.
